Graphic Design by Matt Kelm and Maria Iqbal
The Lilly House, a national historic landmark, was built in 1907 by the Landon Family of Indianapolis. In the 1920s the Olmstead Brothers were comissioned to design gardens for the estate. After the Lillys acquired the property in 1932, additions were made to both the estate house and gardens. They would eventually donate the 56 acres to the Art Association of Indianapolis to build an art museum and become what we know as Newfields today.
This project focused on reinstalling the Lower Level of the Lilly House to invite guests to explore the stories that make the 26-acre Oldfields Estate the historic heart of Newfields. The new orientation space guides guests through an exploration of who lived and worked at the estate, as well as key designers who created the landscape guests can enjoy on their visit. Guests can flex their imaginations and design their own estate and gardens at the interactive table.
I space planned this project as well as selecting new FF&E for most spaces. I also devleoped the interactive table activity in addition to designing the custom furniture and coordinating graphics production for the table.
