CSI: What Lies Beneath is the second of a three part show, organized by the Indianapolis Museum of Art, that focuses on the role science plays in the research of an art museum’s collection. This exhibition demonstrates the use of infrared and x-ray imaging in the provenance research of three works from the IMA’s collection. Each work of art features an interactive screen that allows the viewer to see both the x-ray as well as infrared images of the work and what those images reveal. In addition to the three paintings, the show features a short video, explaining the basics of x-ray and infrared as well as an activity that allows the viewer to investigate a prop work of art utilizing an infrared camera.
