A Brush with Beauty: Japanese Paintings in Ink, Color, and Gold

A Brush with Beauty featured masterpieces spanning 700 years of Japanese painting, particularly focusing on the IMA at Newfields’ remarkable holdings of Edo Period (1600 - 1868) paintings. This, chronologically arranged, exhibition featured painted screens and scrolls spanning from the 14th century to the present day. Interpretive elements included timeline videos, a water calligraphy activity area with materials sample display wall, and an interactive “find-it” game to help visitors identify various schools of painting featured within the show.
